About UPS & Our Culture

The best way to build great warehouse workers is to teach them the right way from day one. UPS's On-Road Training Associates — known inside our buildings as OJT Trainers — are the experienced, high-performing associates selected to onboard every new hire who joins our package center. If you are a veteran UPS associate ready to share your expertise, or an experienced warehouse professional entering our network at the trainer level, these elevated UPS warehouse jobs offer a meaningful leadership dimension that standard sort roles cannot provide. Training is the most important investment we make in our people, and logistics careers often begin with a great trainer.

What Our Team Says (Employee Reviews)

"Being selected as an OJT trainer was the highest compliment UPS has ever paid me. I get to set the standard for every new hire who comes through, teaching them the methods that keep them safe and productive for years. The pay premium is real, the internal recognition from management is real, and watching a new associate you trained hit their first 100-percent sort accuracy day is genuinely the best feeling in any warehouse job I have ever had." - Current On-Road Training Associate, Portland, OR.

Role Overview & Responsibilities

As a UPS Warehouse On-Road Training Associate, you onboard and develop new package center associates during their initial training period, demonstrating UPS-approved work methods, safety protocols, and performance standards one-on-one on the active sort floor inside our package center.

  • New Hire Method Training: Walk new associates through UPS's standard work methods for their assigned function — loading, sorting, or unloading — demonstrating correct techniques in real-time on the live belt and verifying new hire comprehension through observed practice repetitions.
  • Safety Protocol Demonstration: Model and reinforce all UPS safety behaviors from the new hire's very first shift, including proper lifting techniques, equipment operation rules, and emergency response procedures specific to their work area.
  • Performance Observation & Feedback: Monitor new associates during their qualification period, documenting daily performance observations in UPS's training tracking system and escalating any performance or conduct concerns to the shift supervisor promptly.

Benefits & Perks

UPS On-Road Training Associates earn a training-role pay premium on top of their base Teamsters hourly rate for every hour spent in an active training assignment. Full Teamsters union benefits — medical, dental, vision, and pension — and the UPS Earn & Learn tuition program are included. Selection as a trainer is formally recognized in UPS's internal promotion consideration process.
